- The city of Kirman stands on a plateau am 1,800 above sea level on the edge of the desert Dasht-e-Lut in the south / east of Persia. is a very old city, rich in history, even Marco Polo mentioned it in `Milione` describing the skills of its craftsmen especially for the production of textiles and shawls. The oldest known Kirman rug is a fragment dated 1476 kept in the museum of the mosque dedicated to Imam Reza in the city of Mashad, so this is a city with a long tradition in the art of knotting. The designs of the nineteenth century Kirman follow patterns floral medallion sometimes complex, sometimes in `preghiera`, enriched with vases, trees, bushes, animals tracked gracefully naturalistic. There are plenty of traditional patterns in continuous design with bouquets of flowers or Botteh. In the 20s and 30s of the twentieth century drawings they devised francesizzanti where medallions flowered roses stood out on a field together, according to the scheme Khorani gab. Inthis period was very abundant production for export, especially for the US market. Even today Kirman are among the most requested and Persian carpets sold although production today is not qualitatively comparable (with few exceptions) to that of past centuries. Given the great popularity of this carpet, there are many imitations made in other countries such as China or Pakistan. Finally, remember the central Ravar located north of Kirman, whose name is often associated with the finest specimens produced in the region, sometimes in relation to the real origin of the carpets, most often to distinguish objects of a superior quality.
